Do Soucek and Coufal have the hump
A lot have been making excuses or reasons why the pair have been a shadow of their selves this season but do you think money is the root of it? We know we got them for a good price and on relatively modest salaries so are they pissed off?
Catch 22 if we bump up their pay and then they still don’t play well.

re Coufal and hernia. Does anyone recall vs Man U in the Carabao when Coufal got a knee in the knackers from Matic that went unpunished? I wouldn't be surprised if his hernia problems stemmed from that.

Just goes to show how little we know about what goes on in a football club and how quick fans are to jump to conclusions. Coufal has been playing with a hernia? Having had one (and the subsequent op) I know how bloody uncomfortable that is. No wonder he had trouble with Harvey Barnes.

Re: Do Soucek and Coufal have the hump
How would they know how he’s feeling? It’s the position he’s playing that’s fucked him up. If we get £100 million for Rice in the summer and bring in a more defence minded midfielder then Soucek can go back to his better role.

I'm sure someone posted on here a little while ago that he wasn't too happy...

Re: Do Soucek and Coufal have the hump
I'm going to be interested to see how Soucek performs today. He has been truly awful lately and it's no surprise that a lot of people on the Team for thread have called for him to be dropped. Now we hear that he is not signing the new contract that he has been offered. Does that mean he wants out? He should realise that if he keeps playing like this, nobody is going to come in for him.

Due to the weather the availability of decent quality Swan has declined. This has had a noticeable impact on their energy levels.

Re: Do Soucek and Coufal have the hump
Forget about their pay because it is probably at its highest it’s likely to be in their careers.

The reality is that both, in common with other squad members are looking jaded, leggy and ineffective compared to their best levels.

This is the problem due to competing for a top four place with, at best, a lower top eight squad.

You're a fickle fucking idiot Sajmo son.

Re: Do Soucek and Coufal have the hump
Extremely limited on the ball the 2 of them. You won't find players as bad on the ball in the top 10, even 15 teams. I'd even argue there's not many teams who'd see them as a massive improvement over what they have. Times are different, the vast majority of pl teams now play decent football and mostly sign technical players. They've simply been found out by the opposition teams who are all over them when they get the ball because they are absolutely shocking under pressure. If we played only 1 of them maybe it wouldn't be such an issue but playing them both on the same side with Zouma/Dawson behind them is a big reason why we struggle to break teams down. We simply can't play out of the back in the current setup and that, imo, is the difference between our current level and the supposed next level.

Agreed.
Both last year came to prove a point Coufal especially. He was the most dogged of players last season, will power got him the plaudits. Now he's been shown for lack of pace. He will have to adjust,it happens with players coming to the PL. Soucek was scoring or hitting the target at will last season. This season his radar is off. Maybe he is a bit knackered but other players in other teams have played more and still not suffered. Rice has played as many games and is getting better. I don't honestly think that much has changed from the set up of the midfield 2. Rice has gone beyond last yseasons form. Soucek form has dipped a tad. These are the fine margins in the PL.
Soucek just needs an adjustment here and there.

I'd worry more if we lose Rice and Bowen. Without these two we will rapidly become relegation candidates.

Re: Do Soucek and Coufal have the hump
I do think it out of order introducing Kral to the English game by partnering him up with Noble all the time, even Rice struggled to keep our midfield hard to get through until Soucek turned up why doesn’t anyone remember this factor?

Tactically wise they have been found out a bit by opposition managers.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Re: Do Soucek and Coufal have the hump
I heard they're pissed off with Zouma. They were upset that he kicked that cat around and then it got taken into kitty care, when they would have happily eaten it. They see it as wasteful and the Czechs don't like waste.

When Soucek came to us we were relegation favourites.
He fully signed and we climbed up the table. Coufal came in and now we are 4th-6th in the Premier League.

They are still doing great its just most supporters know nothing about tactics, play etc. People are fickle and want goals and assists every game!

Re: Do Soucek and Coufal have the hump
To be honest accusing them of being unprofessional, as the OP is suggesting, is a disgrace really, you probably couldn't meet more of an honest two players at this level, what with their backgrounds, etc.

As for the real reason(s) would imagine it's a combo of a few things, some having been said on this tread. Thing is though this would hardly be the first time a player reached a high level and then not able to maintain it, happens all the time. It's not that shocking.

It's down to Moyes and his team to get them back to their best again. Will it happen though? I doubt it.

Re: Do Soucek and Coufal have the hump
I don't think they do no. Soucek like Antonio has no one up his arse pushing him daily in training threatening his position.

Coufal, I'm not really sure what's happened to him.

Re: Do Soucek and Coufal have the hump
Not really worried about Coufal, but Soucek looks dreadful at the moment.

He doesn’t seem able to do the basics, and is no longer even a threat at set-pieces.
